Workshop: agent-assistert utvikling i Power Platform

## Agent-Assisted Development for Power Platform – Without Becoming a Developer

For years, there has been a fairly clear line between developers and everyone else. Developers worked in code editors, terminals and source control. Power Platform makers worked in the Maker Portal, with low-code tools, configuration and visual designers.

That line is disappearing.

The Maker Portal is no longer the only place where Power Platform development happens. With GitHub Copilot, Visual Studio Code and a growing ecosystem of AI-assisted tools, Power Platform professionals have access to an entirely new way of building.

And no, you don’t have to become a developer first.

In this hands-on workshop, we will leave the familiar Maker Portal behind for a few hours and meet your new colleague, workspace and toolbox: GitHub Copilot, Visual Studio Code, agents, skills and MCP servers.

We will start with the foundations of working with GitHub Copilot in Visual Studio Code: how to collaborate with an AI coding agent, how to give it the right context and instructions, and how this differs from simply asking an AI to generate some code.

From there, we will apply it to real Power Platform scenarios. We will work with solutions outside the Maker Portal, explore how Copilot can understand and modify Power Platform artifacts, and use **instructions, agents and skills** to give it the knowledge and guidance it needs to help us build.

We will also introduce Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and look at how they can extend our toolbox even further, giving Copilot access to Power Platform capabilities and other systems directly from our development environment.

Throughout the workshop, the focus is not on learning to write code from scratch, but on learning how to **work with AI to build things that previously felt out of reach without a developer**. We will look at what these tools are good at, how to guide them, how to evaluate what they produce, and where you still need to understand what is happening underneath.

The goal is not to turn you into a developer. It is to expand what you can build as a Power Platform professional, and perhaps challenge the idea that the Maker Portal has to be where you build it.

By the end of the workshop, you should have a practical understanding of how to:

  • Use GitHub Copilot and Visual Studio Code without a traditional development background
  • Work effectively with an AI coding agent as part of your Power Platform workflow
  • Understand what agents and skills are, what belongs in each, and how to use them
  • Work with Power Platform solutions and artifacts outside the Maker Portal
  • Understand how MCP servers give Copilot access to additional tools and capabilities

### Prerequisites

This is a hands-on workshop. To participate fully, attendees need:

* A **GitHub account**
* An active **GitHub Copilot license**
* **Visual Studio Code** installed on their computer
* Access to a **Power Platform developer environment** in a tenant where they have sufficient permissions to create and modify solutions and components

Basic familiarity with Power Platform and solutions is expected.

**Previous experience with Visual Studio Code, Git or traditional software development is not required.**
